The Gunny: Loud & Clear
TW• In recent weeks, our border with Mexico has been the scene of clashes with Mexico drug cartels, with some cases of Americans being killed and kidnapped on American soil. These cartels are heavily armed and dangerous. The situation has reached the point where President Obama says U.S. troops may be deployed. What do you think we should do about these drug cartels and protecting our border?
Hell, I would have sent the National Guard down to some of the border towns long ago. We’re getting more and more trouble there because our leaders have been blind to enforcing our Immigration Laws. These politicians will sell their souls for the Hispanic vote. The laws of our forefathers have meant nothing to them. Now violence of the drug cartels with 8,000 murders in Mexico last year and already 2,000 this year is spilling over into the U.S. When are the President and the Congress going to get their act together and put their foot down? Never, I suppose…as long as they put the influence of the Hispanic vote first and our country’s security second.
TW• Speaking of our country’s security, I read in Doug Powers’ blog, WorldNetDaily, that Obama’s new Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano told a German newspaper that in order to “move away from the politics of fear to a policy of being prepared for all risks,” she, and I assume her staff along with her, will now refer to “terrorism” as “man-caused disasters.” Your thoughts?
So “terrorism” now becomes “man-caused disasters.” What a bunch of losers the Liberals are! And they’re in charge. It’s embarrassing.

Training the Thunder Ranch Way
Six DVDs show you how, with veteran instructor Clint Smith as your guide!
There is no doubt that the best money you’ll ever spend is to go to a course taught at one of the big name firearms schools. The problem is, especially these days, it is an expensive undertaking. We also know that a good many people who keep a firearm in the home for self-protection, may never have any formal training. Likewise many lawfully armed citizens who choose to carry a concealed handgun may not receive any further training after completing the CCW requirements for their state. Some will join a club or group that allows them the opportunity for the necessary practice. However, they soon realize there is still a lot to learn and there is only so much time they can devote to the range. This is the natural void that books and DVDs fill. I have come to believe that a book can help with the learning process but a good DVD can provide both training and education. And I can assure you that the new Thunder Ranch DVDs are first rate.
I have known Clint Smith since his Gunsite days, where he served as operations officer. I first met him there in 1981, when I attended a General Rifle course. I kept track of Clint and his involvement in a variety of training programs but I didn’t see him again until 1995, when I attended his Home and Vehicle Defense Course at Thunder Ranch in Texas. Clint has a habit of moving after one of our infrequent visits and this was to be no exception. As everyone now knows, Thunder Ranch is now in Oregon. To state the obvious, since Clint has been teaching people how to shoot, how to defend themselves and, most importantly, how to avoid having to use deadly force for about 30 years, he speaks with authority. He is not into fads. The cornerstone of his training is logic, (defined as) rock-solid common sense.

The science that explains why elite military forces bounce back faster than others
In a laboratory, it's extremely difficult to study why some people are better at bouncing back than others because it's so hard to simulate the real stresses and strains of life. Scientists can show people scary pictures or movies to trigger their reactions and measure how they recover, but it's hardly the same as a mugger in an alley or a grizzly bear on a hiking trail. Dr. Andy Morgan of Yale Medical School set out to find a real-world laboratory where he could watch people under incredible stress in reasonably controlled conditions.
He ended up in southeastern North Carolina at Fort Bragg, home of the Army's elite Airborne and Special Forces. This is where the Army's renowned survival school is located. It's also where they believe in something called stress inoculation. Like vaccines, a small challenge or dose of a virus in your system prepares and defends you against a bigger challenge. In other words, they expose you to pressure and suffering in training so you'll build up your immunity. It's a kind of classic psychological conditioning: the more shocks to your system, the more you're able to withstand.
